【主題】：The Impact of Rural Pensions in China on Living Arrangements, Migration and Off-farm Employment of Adult Children

【摘要】：By drawing on a detailed household survey targeting the elderly fielded in Laiwu County of Shandong province in July 2012, we use the eligibility age to analyze the economic impact of pension receipt through a regression discontinuity design. We show that: 1) Even though the pension represents only 10% of average income and households could anticipate receipt, regression discontinuity reveals a perceptible difference in household behavior around the age of pension eligibility, suggesting that these households must be credit constrained; and 2) After the older parent receives a pension, the adult children are more likely to take an off-farm job and to migrate to other areas in search of such jobs.
