【Abstract】There is now substantial empirical evidence that climatic variability increases international migration, but relatively little is known about the mechanism driving the relationship and about adaptations that may reduce it. We use detailed data on migrants from Mexico to the U.S. to show that drought induced migration from Mexico to the U.S. is mediated by agricultural income shocks. We show that migration rates increase in drought years, but only in those parts of Mexico in which agriculture is sensitive to drought, and only by farmers whose lands are unirrigated and do not have non-agricultural sources of income. The results suggest that an expansion of irrigation and income diversification can avert the effect of climate change on future migration.  
   
主講人簡介:李珊老師是中央財經大學中國人力資本與勞動經濟研究中心助理教授,她于2016年取得美國喬治華盛頓大學經濟學博士學位。她的研究領域為勞動經濟學和環境經濟學。目前李珊老師的研究集中于墨西哥到美國的移民問題,印度的水環境問題以及發展中國家的貧困陷阱問題。
