主題：Political Leader Survival: does competence matter?

摘要：We examine whether educational and military competence of political leaders affect their duration in office. We extend the selectorate theory of Bueno de Mesquita et al. (2003) and derive the hypothesis that in the presence of a revolutionary threat, military competence is positively related to political survival, but that the effect is moderated by the size of the Winning coalition. As military and educational competence are negatively correlated, the opposite holds for education. We present empirical estimates using a parametric Weibull duration model that support our theoretical predictions.

演講者簡介：俞抒，荷蘭格羅寧根大學在讀博士。在獲得復旦大學及格羅寧根大學經濟學雙學士學位后，她作為格大最優研究型碩士（Mphil）畢業生留下繼續攻讀博士。她的研究興趣是政治經濟學，研究方向包括發展經濟學和國際經濟學，研究方法以應用（宏觀）計量經濟學為主。她的博士論文以全球眼光關注政體、領袖特質（能力 ）及經濟發展三者之間的關系。討論政體對于領袖選擇、存續以及其改革決策的影響。同時她在中國對非洲投資方面的研究已在 Review of International Economics 和MIT 出版的專題書籍中發表。
