      The California Litter Reduction and Recycling Program & How to Write a Good Introduction in an Academic Paper          
             本次能源經濟學研討會邀請到加州大學伯克利分校農業與資源經濟學Peter Berck教授，環境發展討論論文系列主編Cyndi Spindell Berck做學術演講。          
         時間：4月4日，星期三，14:00—17:00                地點：中國人民大學明德主樓734會議室          報告摘要：              The California bottle and can deposit recycling system is unique in its use of a state fund to partially finance recycling centers and its requirement for supermarkets to have convenient recycling, a recycling center in the parking lot.  This paper reports on consumer`s views of convenience in recycling as well as on the likely effects of changing the deposit and the number of centers.            
                    
         作者簡介：          
           Peter Berck is the S.J. Hall Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California Berkeley.  He graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in mathematics in 1971 and took his Ph. D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1976 in economics. He is a fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association and holds an honorary doctorate from Umea University in Sweden.  He has over 100 research publications on the economics of the environment, agriculture, forestry and economy wide impact of regulation. He has worked on a myriad of economic topics mostly related to the natural world, including rational expectation fisheries, forests in economic equilibrium, ex urban development and fire, water in the mid-east, and water management in African agriculture.  His previous work on the California recycling system led to the legislature raising the deposit rate on bottles from two to five cents.            
             Cyndi Spindell Berck is Managing Editor of the Environment for Development Discussion Paper Series. She holds degrees in history, public policy and law from the University of California, and is a former instructor in legal writing. Her consulting firm, International Academic Editorial Services, provides services in editing, writing, and training in writing, with an emphasis on economics.
