摘    要:  This study includes two papers focusing on Indian and Chinese inequality, respectively. If we take a bird`s eye view of the Indian inequality since independence, it would show a U-trend, a phase of unevenly declining inequality (until 1980s) and another one of rising inequality (after 1980s). In the first paper, I present an analysis of the internal processes like class structural changes, located in a deeper pattern of global capitalist dynamics to discuss these different regimes of inequality in India. The second paper focuses on Chinese inequality. The story of Chinese inequality has taken three significant turns since the revolution in 1949. I analyze the structure and changes in the inequality patterns in the Chinese economy since 1949 but focuses on the period after 1980. I employ a class structural framework to analyze the period between 1988 and 2007. I use the four rounds of CHIP (China Household Income Project) data, viz., 1988, 1995, 2002 and 2007 to accomplish this. There are very few studies that analyze the Chinese economy in class based terms, and in this sense, this paper is a useful addition to the literature on Chinese inequality.
