FIRM LEVEL EVIDENCE FROM CHINA           摘要：Anti-corruption campaigns have long been advocated as panaceas to cure corrupt economies. Draw on firm-level data, we explore an unexpected corruption crackdown in northeast China in a quasi-experimental setting and find that the crackdown significantly reduces firms’ productivity and entry. The negative impacts are mainly born by private and foreign firms rather than state-owned enterprises. We attribute these negative impacts to the breaking up of political connections as corruption may serve as a grease to the economy through firms’ political connections in weak institutions. We further find that the crackdown leads to an increase in perceived corruption among individuals working in private sectors, which suggests that the reveal of corruption scandals may cause an upward adjustment in expected corruption in weakly connected and thus less informed sectors.          
         主講者簡介：金鑫，南佛羅里達大學助理教授，康奈爾大學博士學位。她的主要研究領域是勞動經濟學和組織經濟學，對應用微觀領域有廣泛的興趣。已經在 Research in Labor Economics、Rehabilitation Research, Policy, and Education和Journal of Comparative Economics等國際一流期刊發表多篇論文。
